ACVO Service Dog Eye Exams with Dr Nancy Bromberg and Eric Darling | The Real Dr. Doolittle Show | Animal Talk | Podcast # 104
Guide dogs, detection dogs, search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs and dogs assisting people with disabilities selflessly serve the public. To honor these animals and their work, the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) is launching the 6th Annual ACVO®/Merial® National Service Dog Eye Exam Event to provide free, sight-saving eye exams to service animals during the month of May. More than 250 board certified veterinary ophthalmologists throughout the U.S., as well as Canada and Puerto Rico, are donating their time and resources to screen thousands of eligible service animals. Service animal applicants must register during April for the event, which has provided free exams to more than 16,000 services animals since its launch in 2008.
For instance, Ben is a black American Field Labrador who can climb a three story ladder, unassisted. Ben's eyesight is vital to his job. He is a search and rescue dog from Ventura, CA that can be called upon at any time to rescue someone who is alive, during a disaster. Ben's handler, Eric Darling, has brought Ben to participate in the ACVO®/Merial® National Service Dog Eye Exam Event for two years in a row. Eric and Dr. Nancy Bromberg, a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist, are here to talk about this exciting and important event.

The Andersons' 2006 book about animal rescue won the prestigious American Society of Journalists & Authors Outstanding Book Award. Gibbon Rescue and Conservation | The Real Dr. Doolittle Show | Podcast # 102
The Gibbon Conservation Center (GCC) was established in 1976 by Alan Mootnick. It houses the rarest group of apes in the Western Hemisphere and has successfully reproduced 7 gibbon species. The GCC functions as an international consultant to zoos, museums, government agencies such as the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and individual scientists on species identification and gibbon care. They have assisted gibbon rescue programs in Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The goals of the GCC are to help ensure the survival, conservation and propagation of all
gibbon species in the wild and in captivity. To provide a captive haven for all gibbon species as a complement to protecting them in the wild. To educate the public and add to the knowledge on gibbons for the scientific community, rehabilitation centers, and zoos and to support ongoing field conservation projects.
In November 2011, Alan Mootnick, the GCC founder died suddenly. However, the work at the Center continues. As spokespersons for the Center, our guests today Gabriella Skollar-Charnofsky and Neta Ambar have realized that life is unpredictable. They decided that if they wanted to do something important in their lives, they had to start today. Alan inspired them so deeply that they want to follow his footsteps and have dedicated their lives to studying and protecting gibbons, and to teach people about them.
In this interview some of the things you will learn about are:

- How does the gibbons complex social and family structure work?
- What a day is like at the Center?
- How did Gabriella and Neta become involved?
- What is the gibbon, and why are they endangered?

Sara Fancy originally from SE England now lives in Southern California with her seven horses, three dogs and cat. Sara is the founder and director of Silver Horse Healing Ranch, a therapeutic and educational horse facility inspired by her first horse Silver. Cooking for Your Dog with Gayle Pruitt | The Real Dr. Doolittle Show | Animal Talk | Podcast #100
Gayle Pruitt has been a nutritionist/ chef for fifteen years, earning her Certified Nutritionist degree from the American Health Science University's National Institute of Nutritional Education/NINE in 1996.
Gayle conducts nutritional research where at present she focuses on human and canine nutrition with a specialty in digestive issues and disorders and also acts as a guest lecturer.
Gayle was Executive Chef for MacNut Oil, a gourmet cooking oil company. She has worked as a Personal Chef, and owned and operated Fine Food Delivered, preparing and delivering unique meals for those with special dietary needs.
Gayle also co-hosted a nationally syndicated radio talk show, Menu for Life Radio Show, with Dr. Ross Stewart, a behavioral psychologist and recognized expert on the link between nutrition and brain chemistry.
Gayle's recipes have appeared in national magazines and in best-selling cookbooks such as Hampton's Diet Cookbook and 7-Color Cuisine: A Cookbook and Nutrition Guide. She was the food writer for a Dallas based magazine Lifestyle Solutions.
In addition, she has conducted cooking demonstrations in many cities across the county for national food shows involving gourmet products. And she's been asked to film a pilot for a new show on cooking for dogs too that may easily wind up on one of the Food Networks (can't say which one yet).
Gayle is the author of The Dog-Gone Good Cookbook published by St Martin's Press and scheduled for release in February of 2013.

Horse Clicker Training with Amanda Martin | The Real Dr. Doolittle Show | Animal Talk | Podcast #97
Amanda Martin, the first UK approved The Click That Teaches Instructor, trained by Alexandra Kurland, has been training horses since the early 2000s and has been teaching since the mid 2000s.
Shortly after buying her first stallion Amanda came across clicker training and immediately recognised that this would be a fantastic way to train her stallion. She headed out to the barn with The Click That Teaches book, a clicker in hand and a pocket full of treats and made some wonderful discoveries. She discovered that clicker training is incredibly powerful, that it is an effective communication tool for horses and handlers, and that the horses responded with great enthusiasm.
Now thanks to Amanda, and The Click That Teaches program, horse owners all over the UK and EU/Europe are able to build a solid relationship with their horse where the horse is a willing and enthusiastic partner in the training. Through clinics, lessons and online training courses she is helping horse owners everywhere discover that clicker training can help them create happy, eager horses who love to train. As a result she is also creating very happy horse owners who love spending time with their horses.
Amanda also teaches clicker training at universities and colleges throughout the UK and is also a faculty member for the Equine Clicker Conference in the UK.
Amanda answers some very important questions:

· Does the clicker method work for all horses?
· Clicker training was still considered to be relatively new when you first began learning it. Have things changed in horse training since then?
· Is the clicker good for all aspects of a horses training?

Everyone loves their horse, and that means we want to have a great relationship with our horse. At the S.M.A.A.R.T. Horse Company we aim to help you build that relationship. To help build that relationship it's important to be training for emotional changes in our horses just as much as behavioural changes. We can change behaviour but that does not mean the horse has shifted how they feel emotionally about performing behaviour.

Whole Horsemanship with Penny Stone | The Real Dr. Doolittle Show | Animal Talk | Podcast #96
Penny Stone has been training and caring for animals her whole life. As a child she was always bringing home sick animals and strays. As a young woman she spent time as a dog trainer, a small animal vet technician and as the education coordinator for the humane society. In 1980 she graduated from Merideth Manor International School of Horsemanship and began her career as an equine professional. She began studying with internationally renowned author and horsewoman, Linda Tellington Jones, and became a Ttouch and TTEAM practitioner. All her interactions with animals emphasize understanding, communication, and relationship.
Penny has written many articles, and most recently published her first book Uncommonly Good Horse Sense, about how to understand and interact with animals with compassion and kindness to be their leader. Although horses are the subject of the book, readers say the insights apply to all the creatures in their lives - including humans!
Penny also does Body Balancing for horses. Her methods utilize several bodywork techniques, Cold Laser, Lifewave Technology and integrative movement to improve the horse's comfort, body awareness, balance and movement - and subsequently enhance their performance.
